I am now a full-time, tenure-track assistant professor at the College at Oneonta, part of the State University of New York system, after teaching two years at Lock Haven University in Pennsylvania. I got my PhD in mathematics from Binghamton University in 2005.
I also write fantasy novels, and have sold 4 books to DAW--one trilogy and a single novel, the first part of a new trilogy. The first novel of the trilogy, THE SKEWED THRONE, was released on January 3, 2006, and to all appearances is selling well. Not a bestseller, but it's doing good. The second novel is called THE CRACKED THRONE and was released on November 7, 2006. The third novel, THE VACANT THRONE, has recently been released in hardcover. Find it at your local bookstore! Or order online at one of the links below.
The Skewed Throne was a finalist for the Baltimore Science Fiction Society's Compton Crook/Stephen Tall Memorial Award for best first novel of 2006! It's competition was composed of "Her Majesty's Dragon" by Naomi Novik (which won), "The Lies of Locke Lamora" by Scott Lynch, and "Sojourn" by Jana G. Oliver. Pretty good company, I'd say.
The fourth novel bought by DAW, the start of a new trilogy, is tentatively called WELL OF SORROWS and is scheduled for release in 2009. It has been started--in fact, part I is finished at 60,000 words--and this LJ is mostly about the trials of trying to finish that off on time. I also post regular posts about writing, typically on Fridays.
At the moment, my life is consumed by fretting over whether the first trilogy is any good, and if so, whether the new trilogy will live up to the first one. This blog is mainly about that, and a few aspects of my other life occasionally spill over, just to make it interesting.
