And I'm sick. Blugh. Just a few sniffles and mild headache at the moment. I'm hoping I get over it quickly (and that it's not the swine flu of course). But that aside, I have good news:

My editor called me back!!!! She's reading Well of Sorrows right now and she wanted to set up a time for a serious talk about revisions. We have a time set up on Friday, so hopefully I'll have good news about that this weekend--how it went, what she'd like changed (in generalities of course so I don't spoil the plot), etc. I'm now nervous of course, but she did say she was enjoying the book and everything she mentioned sounded like reasonable stuff to be discussed. Details later.

But more importantly, everything she mentioned related to prepping this book for the sequels. Since DAW hasn't bought the sequels, and yet she seems to be preparing for sequels, I'm taking this as a good sign that I might yet be signing contracts in the future and that my writing career (as Joshua Palmatier) is not dead. Fingers crossed of course. Nothing is set until contracts are signed, but I can be hopeful, right?

This means of course that work on Shattering the Ley will likely be put on hold while I wrestle with the revisions to Well instead. I intend to get those done this summer, if the requested revisions aren't insane. I'll also try to nail down the release date of the book for everyone, so you can all start planning your purchase.

In other news, there's that signing this coming Saturday. Here's the info on the event, the authors, and a little about their books:

Multi-Author Signing
Waldenbooks at the Oakdale Mall
Center Court
June 20th, 2009
1-4pm

On June 20th, 2009, a group of seven authors will gather at the Waldenbooks at the Oakdale Mall in Binghamton, NY, for a rousing good time and the hopes of selling shitloads of books. *grin* Here’s a little bit about each author, and a little bit about their most recent book as well. And if you can’t make the event but would still like signed copies of the books, give the bookstore a call! It’s (607) 798-7452. Speak to April, the manager, and you can work out arrangements to have the books signed and mailed to you. I believe she has a Paypal account and she’s willing to cart the books to the post office and mail them using “media mail,” the cheapest way to mail books. So there’s no excuse! You can have signed copies!

Patricia Bray:

The award-winning author of Devlin’s Luck, her newest release is The Final Sacrifice, the third volume in the Chronicles of Josan series. Her novels have been translated into Russian, German, Hebrew and Portuguese. Find out more at www.patriciabray.com.

The Chronicles of Josan: The story of a scholar who is unwillingly swept into international intrigue and discovers his soul is - perhaps literally - not his own.

The Sword of Change: The story of Devlin of Duncaer, the classic tale of a stranger in a strange land, the outsider who has nothing to lose - and thus finds himself at the center of events that will transform the world.

S.C. Butler: S.C. Butler resides in Brooklyn, NY with a dog, no cats, and certainly no shapeshifting bears. The Magicians’ Daughter is the third novel in his young adult trilogy Stoneways. Visit his website at www.valingstoneways.com.

Stoneways: The Stoneways trilogy is the story of Reiffen's quest for magic - what he does with it and what it does to him - as he and his friends Ferris and Avender join forces with Dwarves and a shapeshifting bear to fight three evil Wizards intent on ruling their world.

Barbara Campbell: Barbara wrote her first novel--Cherokee the Wild Pinto--at age 9, preparing the final manuscript on her Tom Thumb Typewriter. She has just completed her fantasy trilogy Trickster’s Game, which concludes with Foxfire. Visit her website at www.barbara-campbell.com.

Trickster’s Game: A sweeping, multi-generational tale of one
family struggling to surmount the interference of mercurial gods and the ravages of an empire that seeks to destroy their way of life.

Laura Anne Gilman: Laura Anne Gilman is the author of the Cosa Nostradamus books for Luna (the “Retrievers” and “Paranormal Scene Investigations” series), a YA trilogy for HarperCollins, and the forthcoming Flesh and Fire: Book One of the Vineart War from Pocket, while her short fiction has appeared in major anthologies and magazines, including Unusual Suspects and Apex & Abyss. She also writes paranormal romances as Anna Leonard. Her most recent novel is BLOOD FROM STONE. Please visit www.lauraannegilman.net for more information.

BLOOD FROM STONE: A Retrievers Novel

Wren Valere's job is driving her crazy. She's still Manhattan's most sought-after Retriever, but after last year's deadly confrontation with the Silence, all this magic-user wants is a break. With her personal life in chaos and her professional life in overdrive, is Wren finally ready to settle down to a more stable existence?

Not likely. Because when you're good, trouble always finds you.
To save a friend--and protect her future--Wren must pull off the most important Retrieval of her life . . . and for once magic isn't on her side.

Jackie Kessler: Jackie Kessler used to run around in Wonder Woman Underoos and watch Challenge of the Super Friends. Now she watches superhero cartoons with her kids. When not writing about superheroes and the villains who beat the heroes into a bloody mess, she likes to write about demons. She lives in upstate New York with her Loving Husband, two Precious Little Tax Deductions, a curmudgeonly cat, and 8,000 comic books. For more about Jackie, visit her website: www.jackiekessler.com.

Black and White: In a novel that deftly mixes humor, romance, suspense, and superpowers, Jackie Kessler and Caitlin Kittredge put a new spin on the age-old battle between good and evil. Forget the old formula of hero versus villain, because in a world where both the bad guys and the good guys are cloaked in shades of gray, nothing is as simple as BLACK AND WHITE.

Joshua Palmatier: Joshua Palmatier is a fantasy writer with a PhD in mathematics. He has three books currently on the shelves: The Skewed Throne, nominated for the Compton Crook Award for 2006, The Cracked Throne, and the recently released The Vacant Throne, the conclusion of the Throne of Amenkor series. Visit him at www.joshuapalmatier.com.

Throne of Amenkor: An intensely personal story of a young girl, struggling to survive in the slums of the city of Amenkor, whose unsuspected magical gifts bring her power that she does not want and cannot control . . . the Throne of Amenkor.

Anton Strout: Fantasy author Anton Strout was born in the Berkshire Hills mere miles from writing heavyweights Nathaniel Hawthorne and Herman Melville and currently lives in the haunted corn maze that is New Jersey (where nothing paranormal ever really happens, he assures you). He is the author of the Simon Canderous urban fantasy series.

Deader Still: It’s been 737 days since the Department of Extraordinary Affairs’ last vampire incursion, but that streak appears to have ended when a boat full of dead lawyers is found in the Hudson River. Using the power of psychometry--the ability to divine the history of an object by touching it--agent Simon Canderous discovers that the booze cruise was crashed by something that sucked all the blood out of the litigators. Now, his workday may never end--until his life does.
